What Is Neurofeedback? A Short Video and a Plain Answer
Oct 06, 2026Since we started offering BrainCore here in Elizabethton, the question I hear more than any other is the simplest one.
"What is neurofeedback, exactly?"
So here is a short video from BrainCore that shows it, and below it, my own plain answer.
The short version
Neurofeedback is brain training.
You sit in a comfortable chair with small sensors resting on your scalp. They read the electrical activity your brain is already making. Nothing is put into the brain. A computer watches that activity moment to moment, and when your brain moves toward the pattern we are training, the movie or sound you are following responds.
Your brain notices the feedback and adjusts on its own, with no effort from you. Repetition does the work, the same way practice builds any skill.
Why we map the brain first
Before we train anything, we do a qEEG brain map, because we want to see how your brain is communicating.
I think of it like a forest. One tree talks to another tree. Groups of trees talk to groups of trees. And the whole forest talks to itself. The map measures how those conversations are going and shows where things sit within normal ranges, low ranges and high ranges.
The map reads patterns, and we use what it shows to guide the training. Nobody here will point at a color on it and hand you a diagnosis.
Where it fits with your medical care
Neurofeedback is a different approach, and it works alongside the care you already have. Keep your doctor in the loop. Nobody in this office will ever tell you to stop a medication or skip an appointment.
Is it right for everyone?
No, and I would rather tell you that up front. Some people should see their doctor first. Every brain responds in its own way, and nobody here promises an outcome.
That is why the first step is finding out whether it is a fit for you at all.
See if you qualify
Start with our free brain health assessment. Pick the area that concerns you most: attention and focus, mental stress, learning challenges, negative moods, sleep, or peak performance. It takes a few minutes, and your results come up on the screen when you finish.
